UPSC Geologist Recruitment 2016: Apply Online, Syllabus, Eligibility

UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) has announced the date for the Geologists Examination 2016. Every year this exam is conducted by UPSC for the selection of Geologists.

The recruitment of candidates will be based on Written Examination and Interview. Every year thousands of candidates give this examination. UPSC gives a chance to common man to be a part of UPSC through this examination.
Eligibility Criteria for Geologists 2016:


Educational Qualification: Candidates should have a Post Graduate Degree in Geology/ Applied Geology/ Marine Geology/Earth science/ Resource management/ Oceanography and Coastal Areas Study/ Petroleum Geo-sciences/ Geochemistry from recognized University.

Age Limit: Age of the candidates should be between 21- 32 years.

  1. General English - Short Essay, General Understanding of English.
  2. Geology Paper 1 - Section A :  Geo-morphology and Remote Sensing,  Section BStructural Geology, Section B : Geotechtonics,  Section D : Stratigraphy,  Section E : Palaeontology
  3. Geology Paper 2 -  Section A : Mineralogy,  Section B : Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology,  Section C : Sedimentology,  Section D : Geochemistry,  Section E : Environmental Geology.
  4. Geology Paper 3 -  Section A : Indian mineral deposits and mineral economics,  Section B : Ore genesis,  Section C : Mineral exploration,  Section D : Geology of fuels,  Section E : Engineering geology.
  5. Hydrogeology -  Section A : Origin, occurrence and distribution of water,  Section B : Well hydraulies and well design,  Section C : Groundwater chemistry,  Section D : Groundwater exploration,  Section E : Groundwater problems and management.

Part-1-Written Examination:
  • Written Exam will be consisting of 900 marks.
  • All the question paper must be answered in English, The question paper will be set in English only.
Part-2- Interview:
  • Interview for personality test of such candidates as may be called by the Commission, carrying 200 marks
